The grandfather of one of the great culinary movements – progenitor of all sorts of media, such as “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” – but even the most recent edition is a little long in the tooth.

This kind of guidebook is almost irrelevant in the online age, as demonstrated by descriptions of establishments that are no longer open (or at least have evolved beyond recognition) or quaint backroads explorations before GPS.

The Sterns have moved to the web, where the forum is among the best resources for those interested in true regional American cuisine served in non-corporate settings.
